Home and Office Furniture Basics

As any professional interior designer can tell you, one of the most important things to remember when purchasing furniture is that the nuts and bolts stay hidden, away from people who come into your shop or your home. There are many reasons for this.

One, it is neater this way. Nuts and bolts are the ‘ugly’ side of the furniture. It is like walking into the home and you can see the wiring, bricks and cement. That, we are sure, you will agree that it is unsightly. Two, it is safer, especially if you are decorating the home and you have kids moving around in your home all the time. Pins, nails and other stuff that keeps the item together can be dangerous for little toddlers too as most furniture are kid-height.

Easy to fix-up
Be it furniture for your shop or furniture for your home, if you had to do it yourself, make sure there is manual. And we are not talking about just ANY manual but a comprehensive, easy to understand one. Have you ever bought things that requires home-fixing only to end up stuffing it into a corner, collecting dust, because you couldn’t fix it up properly? Well, you are not the only one.

If you need help, make sure you get a number or at least an email address from the person who sold you the furniture.

Light-weight can be a good thing
If the furniture that we are talking about is something that you need to lug around, we strongly recommend getting something lightweight. If you need to pack and unpack the furniture on a regular basis, go for something that comes with a customized bag. Apart from large shelving systems which needs to be screwed to wall panels, it is always smarter to go with lighter furniture for the sake of it being mobile. You don’t know when you might want to give your home or office a make-over. (Makeovers are great for giving the home and office a refreshing look)

And, of course, quality is absolutely crucial
As the economy hits new lows, you might be inclined to skimp on the budget and get cheaper furniture. We think it is more prudent to go for quality instead. In the long run, because quality furniture lasts for longer periods of time, you actually save money by choosing quality.
